Three Rivers’ Golf Academy Works to Grow the Game
Golf’s pandemic-era rise in popularity still has momentum. At Eagle Lake Golf Course in Plymouth, golf lessons are filling up.
The lessons at Eagle Lake are through Three Rivers Park District’s Golf Academy. There are group and private offerings throughout the summer at a number of locations across the Twin Cities.
Learning to golf takes a certain drive at any age.
“It’s a great sport to do forever,” said Golf Instruction Supervisor Chad Fortney. “Having a good foundation of skills can make it much more enjoyable.”
On Monday morning, kids worked with instructors on different techniques at stations throughout the course. Instructor Julia Contreas helped some young learners perfect their form. Contreas said she’s worked with plenty of baseball players who are more familiar with another type of swing.
“It’s fun to work with them and see the different kinds of swings we get to work with,” Contreas said.
Golf still has its pandemic momentum, according to Fortney. Even so, there’s space for more future golfers to sign up for lessons. He said his favorite part is seeing the difference lessons and technique makes.
“Watching them go through the process of doing the right steps, and then the results come,” Fortney said. “Seeing them improve is really fulfilling for me.”
People can register for the golf academy on Three Rivers’ website. More details about lessons, including time, location and prices are available online. Scholarships are also available.
