Three Charged After Robbery, Car Chase in Brooklyn Park
Three men were charged in connection with a robbery and car chase that started in the parking lot of the Brooklyn Park Target.
23-year-old Prestin Taylor, of Minneapolis, 33-year-old Jason Mayberry, of Minneapolis, and 35-year-old Darrin Spears, of Columbia Heights were charged with first-degree aggravated robbery. Taylor was also charged with one count of fleeing police officers in a motor vehicle.
According to their criminal complaints, police were called to the Target in Brooklyn Park on a report of a robbery on Friday, Dec. 1.
A female victim reported that as she was leaving Target with her children, a man followed her and struck her on the head from behind.
Two more suspects arrived and they kicked, punched and dragged the woman across the asphalt.
One of the suspects pointed a gun at her head and then stole her purse. The victim had about $900, her house keys and credit cards in her purse.
They also took about $100 worth of merchandise the victim purchased from Target.
The suspects then entered a Chevy Equinox and attempted to flee the scene. Taylor was allegedly driving the vehicle.
Police spotted the Chevy and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspects continued fleeing, and crashed into an unrelated car driving on the road.
Officers initially terminated the pursuit, but later relocated the vehicle.
Police then conducted a PIT maneuver on the Chevy Equinox and disabled the vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, Taylor, Mayberry and Spears then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.
Taylor was founding hiding inside a tarp under a deck.
Mayberry would found hiding under a car.
Spars tried to jump a fence and flee, but was discovered in a residential backyard.
All three suspects were arrested and booked in the Hennepin County Jail.
