Thousands of Flowers at ‘Daffodil House’ Brighten Up Golden Valley
Spring is in full swing and that means some flowers are already in bloom. A Golden Valley house offers the perfect place to view thousands of daffodils.
Warren Kapsner’s house on Edgewood Avenue gives neighbors a beautiful place to stop by in the springtime. By his count, he should have between 8,000 and 10,000 daffodils on his lawn this season.
“This is actually going to be a sea of daffodils,” Kapsner said, gesturing to just one part of his lawn. “Every year, there’s going to be more, and more and more.”
He started the project several years ago with just 100 daffodils. He realized that wasn’t much of a spectacle, so he planted more. In 2021, he had about 2,500 in his lawn.
“I didn’t have many, but they expand and they’re resilient,” Kapsner said.
Kapsner specializes in resilient plants. The daffodils fit right in. He said there isn’t much of a secret to keeping them alive.
Before his lawn was decorated in flowers and sprouting hostas, his half-acre property was mostly bare.
“The whole thing was grass,” Kapsner said.
It has been three years since CCX News last caught up with Kapsner and his 2,500 flowers. Today, that volume has at least doubled. Plus, the older bulbs are blossoming more flowers.
“It really amounted to something. And I thought, ‘Wow! I’m going to put a lot more in!’ So now, there are five thousand bulbs,” Kapsner explained.
At its peak, the patches– spread across his property– could amount to 10,000 yellow-petaled flowers.
“It makes a statement!” Kapsner exclaimed.
Visitors Welcome
Around this time of year, neighbors from near and far stop by the lawn. Kapsner welcomes them all.
“People are just amazed, they really think it’s wonderful. And they’re very thankful,” Kapsner said.
A couple neighbors walked by Monday morning and took photos by Kapsner’s display. He hopes more people stop by and said the best time to view the daffodils will be within the next two weeks.
The golden daffodil display is located at 130 Edgewood Ave. S in Golden Valley.
