T21 Passes in Robbinsdale
Come July, you’ll have to be 21 years old to buy tobacco in the city of Robbinsdale. The city council passed two tobacco-related measures Tuesday night. The second change says any e-cigarettes and liquids must be sold in age-restricted stores only.
Some council members mentioned the desire to stop kids from starting smoking as motivation for changing tobacco ordinances.
“When I think about what’s important, I think about kids in Robbinsdale,” said council member Dan Rogan. “To me, that carries the day.”
The council considered moving mint, menthol and wintergreen-flavored tobacco products to be sold in tobacco shops only. Several store owners spoke against that measure and it did not pass.
Plymouth and Brooklyn Center have already raised the age to buy to 21.
