Synthetic Turf Field Coming to Champlin Park High School
Champlin Park High School will soon be able to host more events at its stadium. The Anoka-Hennepin School Board approved adding synthetic turf at five high school stadiums, including Champin Park.
School officials said the new surfaces will expand field use from 65 events in the district to more than 245.
“The good thing about turf is going to be that natural playability. It’s going to allow us to have more than just our varsity teams in our stadiums,” said Champlin Park Activities Director Matthew Mattson. “It’s going to give us that good tracking when you have bad weather. It only takes one or two Friday nights with lots of rain, when the nice looking grass becomes a mud bowl or a mud pit, as the kids call it.”
The goal is to have fields ready by the fall of 2021.
Besides sports teams, gym classes will also be able to take advantage of the new field.
