Suspect Who Shot at Golden Valley Police Had ‘51-Page Criminal History’
Golden Valley Interim Police Chief Scott Nadeau said the suspect who fired at police on Wednesday night had an extensive criminal history.
“This person had a 51-page criminal history with past convictions for robbery and for assault, assault with a deadly weapon, several burglary and theft-related charges,” said Nadeau. “This is certainly a dangerous individual and it concerns me that this person is out victimizing people.”
Nadeau believes the suspect is connected to several random burglaries in the northwest suburbs.
“I think the homes were selected randomly. We don’t have any reason to believe that the house that was targeted because he knew the owner or that he had been there in the past,” he said.
Golden Valley police say a neighbor called in a suspicious vehicle. When officers found the vehicle, it took off. The vehicle crashed into a snowbank seven blocks away. The suspect tried to run away, firing at least five rounds at officers, police said. Officers did not return fire. No one was injured in the ordeal.
Officers eventually arrested the shooter as well another person who stayed in the vehicle. Police say they found items inside the vehicle that they believe are stolen.
Nadeau said staff couldn’t recall another incident in the past 20 years in Golden Valley where someone shot at a police officer.
