Standout Student: Providence’s Julia Landwehr
Providence Academy Senior Julia Landwehr is bright, ambitious and enjoys reading. Literature is her favorite subject. “Just getting to analyze the book and see other people’s opinions and everything. I think it’s super cool,” said Landwehr. Besides reading and analyzing books, the National Honor Society student also writes. “All students have their own strengths, some are really strong writers, some are really strong at discussing, some are really good at the factual, and Julia stands out because she’s just so good at each of those dimensions,” said teacher Adam Schmalzbauer. When Julia is not buried in a book, she can often be found at the pool. The Maple Grove resident has been swimming since she was 11, and is now on the Providence swim team. “I swim sprint freestyle. So, I do the 50 and 100 yard freestyle and then usually some relays too,” said Landwehr.
The training and competitiveness of the sport are some of the things that drive Julia to do well. “I just find a lot of strength because I think it’s kind of cool how you can put in months and months and months of training and then like, see those results at the end of the season,”said Julia. She is also focused on giving back. The top student participates in PACMAN, a school club dedicated to community service. “It’s just a cool feeling. I like really, really, getting involved in other people’s lives and just learning more about where different people come from,” said Julia. Julia hasn’t decided on a college just yet, but she suspects she’ll major in one of the humanities.
