Standout Student: Providence Academy’s Jacob Halek
This week’s CCX News Standout Student is Jacob Halek of Providence Academy. The senior has made a name for himself by excelling at a variety of pursuits. Halek plays both offense and defense for the Lions football team. And he’s the team captain. Away from the gridiron, Halek is a formidable point guard on the basketball team. But all those sports doesn’t mean academics takes a back seat.
Halek’s got a keen interest in literature and computer science. His academic prowess got him into the National Honor Society. As though that weren’t enough, he leads the basses in the Academy Chorale and is one of only two students from the school accepted into All State Choir this year.
Singing led Halek straight to the footlights – last year he played Joseph in the school’s production of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. And when he’s not playing sports, singing, acting, or somehow finding time to study, Halek volunteers. He’s in charge of a Providence leadership group which spreads school spirit to uplift the community. He and a few friends also started a school supply sharing initiative for students in underserved schools in our area.
Standout Student Jacob Halek plans to attend St. Olaf College next fall.
