Standout Student: Osseo’s Hajaysen Kwateh
There are only 24 hours in a day and we all try to make the most of them. This week’s standout student truly makes the most of every hour in the day.
“I am a part of the soccer team, the basketball team and track,” says Hajysen Kwateh, a student at Osseo Senior High. “I am a student ambassador, I am a focus leader and I am in the band.”
A Leader on the Field and in the Classroom
Known by her friends as Jay, this high school senior has a very busy schedule. However, faculty at the school say she wouldn’t have it any other way.
”Jay is just one of those kids she just always has this massive smile on her face,” says Traci Ohlenkamp Jay’s soccer coach. “I think that when you see her she just has an electricity about her that just makes you light up as well.” While she excels in the classroom, she’s also a leader on the field. “Academically she’s got a ridiculously challenging course schedule she is in advance placement everything,” added Ohlenkamp “She doesn’t take it easy.
As an athlete Jay is a work horse. She leads by example she gives her best physical effort all the time. I think to some people that can be a little bit intimidating, but inspiring at the same time because you want to be like Jay.”
Being a leader is what Jay hopes she can pass on to students that look up to her.
“I hope I can show them that it’s ok to be comfortable with yourself,” says Jay. “I hope kids will have their own voice and not be afraid to be themselves.”
The high school student has left a positive impact not only on teachers but her fellow classmates as well. She says her influence on others is always in the back of her mind.
“The impact that you make is very important on others,” added Jay. “You have to be aware of your surroundings and be conscious other people’s feelings.”
Looking forward to her Future
Jay looks forward to her future, where she hopes to continue challenging herself.
“I just this year decided I wanted to be a medical examiner,” added Jay. “I like the aspect of being able to figure out what caused certain deaths.”
On a lighter note….as far as high school goes, she hopes that everyone can take away what she has from time spent at Osseo Senior High.
“Don’t stress over the little things because in the end they won’t really matter,” says Jay. “If you just take each day at a time it’s going to get better.”
