Standout Student: Maple Grove’s Ema Trebtoski
A Maple Grove High School senior is showing how kids are more alike than different.
Ema Trebtoski is a teacher’s assistant for Hailey Olson’s special education class. She also helped the school’s Crimson Cares program take off in its first year. The program is sponsored by Special Olympics, which helps bring mainstream and special ed kids together.
“She’s been contacting different organizations throughout Maple Grove to try to set up outings outside of school, doing parties after school hours,” said Olson.
“It just helps us build compassion and know that there is no such thing as normal, everyone is different and that’s good,” said Trebtoski.
Trebtoski has dreams of becoming a special ed teacher. In 2008, her sister passed away from a severe case of cerebral palsy. Bringing joy to people with special needs is her to honor her sister.
