Stages Theater Preps Its Youngest Actors For ‘The Dandelion Seed’
A special program for a young group theater fans is underway at Stages Theatre Company in Hopkins.
It’s a part of “Theater for the Very Young,” a program that’s been underway for ten years. This year, actors ages 5 and under are performing “The Dandelion Seed.”
The story follows the journey of a seed that is afraid to let go.
Ten-year-old Lola Alowonle, who plays several characters in the show, said it’s about facing your fears and finding belonging.
“If you move just one place to another, it’s really scary for some people,” she said. “But people can make you feel at home, things can make you feel at home. So, you’re not that afraid.”
Each show is interactive and sensory friendly. Kids are on the stage with other, older actors.
Milan Alowonle, Lola’s twin sister, is playing the seed, alongside another role. Milan said it’s a different and special way of putting on a performance.
“It’s not just that we’re doing the play — they’re helping us do the play,” she said. “So they can teach us new things, we can teach them new things, they can play with us.”
Performances began on Wednesday, Aug. 7. They continue for the rest of the month until Sunday, Aug. 25 at Hopkins Center for the Arts.
Tickets, and additional information about accessibility, are available on Stages’ website.
