After Four Year Hiatus, Corn Fest Returns to St. Gerard Church
Corn Fest is back at St. Gerard Church in Brooklyn Park for the first time in four years, and organizers have condensed the proceedings to one full day of food, fun, and entertainment.
The grounds of the church will be open from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19 to welcome in everyone for the church’s biggest fundraiser of the year.
“This is free to anyone to come in,” said Mark Scherschligt, one of the organizers. “We hope people come in to just enjoy the day, see what St. Gerard’s is all about and just have a wonderful day.”
The event features games for kids of all ages, inflatables and water slides.
Food offerings include hamburgers, pulled chicken, french fries, tiramisu and canolis.
Of course, the star of the show — fresh corn — will also be available for purchase. The church gets its corn from Riverview Farm in Elk River, Scherschligt said.
He also said there’s a new Vietnamese food stand this year, offering egg rolls, fried rice, and pho, among other delicacies.
With hot weather in the forecast for Saturday, organizers say they’ve arranged for water-related games for the kids. They’ll also have indoor bingo games to help everyone stay cool.
St. Gerard Church is located at 9600 Regent Avenue, just north of Highway 610.
