Sports Dome Pitched for Park Center HS
The city and school district are discussing the development of two synthetic turf fields and a dome at Park Center High School. The partnership would be modeled after the one the city of Maple Grove has with Maple Grove High School.
But Brooklyn Park has something else to consider. The city has two high schools, the other being Champlin Park in the Anoka-Hennepin District. So there are questions about doing a project at one high school and not at the other.
“That’s the rub right now,” says Brooklyn Park Mayor Jeff Lunde. “Do we want to do this? And then, how are we going to handle the fact that we’ve got four school districts here. So, we’ve got to support them all and we can’t pick just one.”
If such a partnership were to go through the Osseo district, funding could be a 50-50 split. Hennepin County youth sports grants could also be part of the funding equation.
The estimated cost of a dome with lighted turf fields is five and a half million dollars.
