Spate of Luxury Car Thefts Continues in Golden Valley
Golden Valley Police have recovered a Porsche and four other vehicles after a string of car thefts at luxury dealerships in the city.
According to Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green, officers responded to a call around 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17 at Porsche Minneapolis along Wayzata Boulevard.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that a black Porsche 911 had been stolen. Investigators say the suspects had initially tried to drive a vehicle through the dealership’s service door but were unsuccessful. They eventually gained entry by prying open a door leading into the service area.
Several hours later, the Porsche was involved in a brief pursuit in north Minneapolis. The car struck a Hennepin County Sheriff deputy’s vehicle and fled the scene.

On Friday, Green said investigators recovered the Porsche, but it was totaled.
In addition to the Porsche, Green said a Cadillac was stolen on Sunday, and a number of other cars were taken on Tuesday.
“Seven vehicles were stolen from a business here in Golden Valley that does reconditioning for several dealerships,” Green said.
Investigators recovered four of those vehicles by Friday.
Green said he believes each of these incidents are connected.
“One person has been taken into custody who is associated,” he said.
However, police are searching for seven other suspects.
“These cars are just being used to commit other crimes locally,” said Green.
In the meantime, Green said businesses are worried.
“It’s going to be a partnership between how we can help the dealerships protect their vehicles, and how we can patrol the areas a lot more,” Green said.
