Shoplifting Suspect Cited for 25 Separate Cases at Brooklyn Center TJ Maxx
A Minneapolis man has been accused of at least 25 separate thefts from the Brooklyn Center TJ Maxx store.
According to court records, Brooklyn Center police allege Davontre Snoddy, 19, stole $5,864 in merchandise from the TJ Maxx store at Shingle Creek Crossing shopping center.
He faces felony counts of third-degree burglary and theft.
The thefts occurred over a six-month period from October 2022 to March 2023.
A court summons shows that Brooklyn Center police responded to a theft call at the TJ Maxx on March 3. Arriving officers stopped a man in the parking lot, later identified as Snoddy.
Officers searched Snoddy and found approximately $140 worth of stolen merchandise in his possession.
Security officials at the store told police that they had filed trespassing proceedings against Snoddy in August 2022. They provided police with surveillance footage and reports documenting at least 24 other incidents where Snoddy had stolen from the store.
“In each incident, [Snoddy] enters the store, selects merchandise from the store, and leaves the store without attempting to purchase any of the items he selected,” the court summons reads.
During some visits, police say Snoddy stole as little as $70 in merchandise. Other visits, he left with more than $600 of stolen goods.
In the five-day stretch from February 13-17, he stole $1,372.45 in merchandise, making two visits to steal from the store on the 15th.
A third-degree burglary conviction comes with a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. A conviction for theft in excess of $5,000 has a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine.
