School Spotlight: Maple Grove Middle School’s PACT Program
A new program at Maple Grove Middle School unites parents, teachers and students, much like a PTO program. PACT stands for parents and community together and those involved say it’s been a success.
“This mission is really to make students and families feel included,” explains Carrie Pzynski, one of the board members. “To make sure that there is a diverse voice behind the scenes and making sure everybody feels welcomed and listened to or heard when they are at school.”
PACT is the first organization of its kind in Osseo Area Schools. They host fundraiser and community building events that engage students, parents and educators.
“This is a time when kids are trying to pull away and developmentally that’s what we want them to do but they need their parents more than ever,” said principal Lisa Hartman. “So it’s really important that the parents stay involved with their kids.”
Hartman says one benefit has been an increase in the number of parents who are involved at the school.
“I just hope the people can know that middle school students are lovely,” says Hartman. “It’s a time in life that’s hard but I hope that they also know that with parents and family coming together, we can really make a difference in kids’ lives.”
