Rockford Road Bridge Reconstruction a “50-plus Year Fix”
The huge reconstruction project in Plymouth continues, but an end is in sight. Rockford Road will soon have a new bridge over I-494. Motorists can expect that near the end of October.
The three-phase project started in late May.
“The old bridge from the 1960s was demolished,” said Michael Thomson from the Plymouth Public Works Department. “A whole new interchange, new bridge, and ramps are being redone. Some capacity expansion, dual left turn lanes on the bridge.”
Getting around the site is challenging. When things wrap up, there will be plenty of upgrades.
The project’s total cost is approximately $16 million. Drivers should expect ramp closures after the new bridge opens. Expected completion of the entire project is late November.
Officials are calling this a “50-year plus fix” for the area.
