Rock Climbing Gym Proposed in Plymouth
Fans of rock climbing may have a new indoor spot to practice the sport in the west metro.
Bouldering Co. Inc., doing business as Big Island Bouldering plans to build a 20,672-square-foot indoor climbing gym in Plymouth.
It’s planned for construction in a multi-tenant building at 161 Cheshire Ln. N., near Interstate 494 and Carlson Parkway.
Chris Massoll, who owns the company, told the Plymouth Planning Commission that this new business venture will have about 7,000 square-feet of climbing walls.
Rather than using climbing walls, bouldering is rock climbing in its simplest form.
“It’s rock climbing like you’ve seen [but] without ropes, so there’s limit to the height,” Massoll said. “But all of these walls, they’re all vertical — they have different levels of degrees of angulation. So, some I think [are] as extreme as maybe 45 degrees.”
The highest climbing walls in the gym would be 16 feet off the ground.
