Robbinsdale’s Greater Grace Hair Loss Solutions Provides Confidence Boost
A Robbinsdale shop is making access to medical wigs possible for those who can’t afford it.
At Greater Grace Hair Loss Solutions and Trichology Center, people can find answers for hair loss or thinning concerns. Owner Lequilla Walker is a certified trichologist and specializes in the study of hair and scalp. She also provides a wide variety of cranial prostheses, also called medical wigs.
“I grew up in a hair salon. And my mom and my aunts and everyone did hair,” Walker said. Eventually, she followed in their footsteps– but realized she wanted to change her course. “I was doing hair, but it wasn’t fulfilling enough. I wanted to help others.”
Over the years, Walker struggled with hair loss due to an autoimmune disorder. She shifted to trichology and medical wigs after reflecting on her own journey.
“It was, at times, embarrassing to go to a salon and have someone in your head. So I had to create a space for those people who felt like me,” Walker said.
Walker said she takes her time with each client to decide what they need– either treatments or to choose from her wide variety of cranial prostheses.
“We go through plenty of wigs until they find the right one that represents who they are,” Walker explained.
Her clients, like Darlene Taylor who came in on Monday morning, work with her to find the perfect fit.
“At first, I was kind of disappointed or sensitive about my hair,” Taylor said about her hair journey. “You’ve just got to have confidence in yourself. Because it’s not about the hair– even though it is about the hair.”
But private solutions can be very expensive — especially if it isn’t covered by insurance. Walker said most insurances cover cranial prosthesis, but some don’t. For those who don’t, she wants to help. Anyone who qualifies can get a cranial from Greater Grace, free of charge. That makes medical wig access possible for those who thought it wouldn’t be.
Greater Grace is looking for donations to help purchase medical wigs for those who need them. The business is also collecting a percentage of each sale to go toward the wigs.
