Robbinsdale Woman Shaves Head to Raise Money for Childhood Cancer
Jeannine McDonald shaved her head after raising more than $1,000 for the new Minnesota Lions Childhood Cancer Foundation. The Robbinsdale Lions Club joined in the fundraiser with 15 Lions raising more than $5,000 for the foundation.
McDonald says it all started with a joke.
“I was joking around, you know over the fence, if my folks can come up with $1,000 just for me, I’d consider it,” she said. “The checkbooks came out pretty quick and within a day we were at $500 and I thought ‘oh boy’ this is what I’m going to do.”
The Minnesota Lions Childhood Cancer Foundation is in its first year, but it’s already raised more than $100,000.
McDonald says at one of the conventions, a member shaved his head to raise money.
“They did it without a lot of planning and they still managed to raise thousands of dollars,” she said.
McDonald said this year with her ‘corona hair’ she was in. She hoped to raise $5,000 through a GoFundMe account. She says it wasn’t exactly a brave thing to shave her head for childhood cancer.
“The brave are the kids that are in this cancer journey,” said McDonald. “Mine is a mild inconvenience.”
She jokes that people staring at her shaved head in the next few weeks might be a little inconvenient too.
