Robbinsdale School District Rolls Out New COVID-19 Guidelines
The Robbinsdale School District has updated its COVID-19 policies to make masks optional, discontinue a staff vaccine mandate and not require students or staff to stay at home if they are in close contact with someone with COVID-19.
“We were excusing students before if they weren’t vaccinated and had exposure or if they were not feeling well,” said Meghan Hickey, director of student services. “We actually made them stay out of school until they had a negative COVID test. Now we are only excluding students from school if they test positive for COVID.”
The district will continue to provide COVID tests to students on site in schools if needed and disinfect high-touch surfaces in all schools daily.

Monkeypox Addressed
The district also recently addressed parental concerns over the rising cases of monkeypox in the metro area.
“While monkeypox is a serious illness and we need to take precautions, it is important to note that it is different from COVID-19. It does not appear to spread nearly as easily. It does spread through person-to-person physical contact and by coming into contact with items or surfaces that have been touched by an infected person’s rash,” read the statement from the district.
Hickey said that the district is prepared to address another pandemic situation, if monkeypox does rise to that level.
