Robbinsdale Salon Collects Prom Dresses for Project Fairy Godmothers
A Robbinsdale salon is collecting donations to help make one of high school’s biggest nights — prom — a little more special.
Salon Halo is collecting new and used prom dresses to donate to teens across the metro.
The salon is partnering with an organization called Project Fairy Godmothers to distribute the dresses.
“For the last eight years we’ve been collecting prom dresses,” said Salon Halo owner Amanda Kist. “You feel good, you look good. That carries through with prom and having that beautiful gown that they normally could not afford.”
Many families have old prom dresses sitting in their closet.
“I know some of us have them in the closet that we’re just saving for maybe a granddaughter or maybe a daughter to step into,” Kist said. “They’re collecting that space, so bringing them in here, donating them, gives an opportunity to actually carry that on to someone who will use it in the current times.”
Kist says a nice dress can give a teen a chance to feel more confident and make lifelong memories.
“Having that prom dress kind of showcases who you are at that moment,” Kist said. “Being able to find a dress that fills what you feel like on the inside, you can actually bring it out on the outside. It’s a milestone for a person at the end of high school.”
Project Fairy Godmothers will be giving away the dresses at an event in April. Meanwhile, Salon Halo will also provide free hair and makeup tutorials during the giveaway.
Donations can also be dropped off at any St. Croix Cleaners location.
