Robbinsdale Police Use Fridge Magnets To Help Save Lives
A new campaign by the Robbinsdale Police Department aims to save lives, one fridge magnet at a time.
Police were out distributing emergency medical packets to seniors and others with serious medical conditions this week.
These packets can give crucial health information to first responders if you’re unconscious or hurt.
Robbinsdale Police Capt. John Elder said officers respond to medical calls for unresponsive people “several times a week, especially with the number of buildings that we have for seniors.”
They’re distributed with a pouch and a magnet so they can be stored on the outside of a fridge or inside your freezer.
Elder said emergency personnel are trained to look for these documents in either spot.
“We want people to be able to let us know what medications they’re on, if they have allergies — we certainly don’t want paramedics making it worse,” Elder said. “And who we can call, who are we able to call to help them get more help … nobody’s expecting to need an ambulance or police help on any given day, so this is just a great way to prepare for worst case scenario.”
Anyone interested in obtaining one of the packets can contact the Robbinsdale Police Department.
