Robbinsdale Exploring Opportunities to Revamp Sanborn Park
Robbinsdale officials are considering updating Sanborn Park and want feedback from the community.
The neighborhood park sits right off Crystal Lake and has a picnic area, outdoor hockey rink, baseball fields, and tennis and basketball courts. But officials say they’re outdated.
“This is a beautiful space. I think the community could use a little sprucing up around here,” said Robbinsdale resident Jonna Cross.
The city is exploring the option of a community building with more meeting and storage space to replace the existing building at Sanborn Park.
“We’re not talking about a 500-person rental hall or anything like that. But there is certainly a value to the community to be able to host a birthday party, to be able to host a graduation,” explained City Manager Tim Sandvik.
Officials are trying to figure out what to do with empty green space.
“Maybe a soccer field or something,” suggested resident Mary Hausauer.
She would also like the picnic area expanded. Pointing to the empty green space, she said, “I think if they built another one, maybe down that end, by the trees.”
But for now, city officials say nothing is set in stone and they want ideas.
The next open house is Oct. 11 at Robbinsdale City Hall. Officials hope to present their recommendations to the city council by the end of the year.
