Robbinsdale Couple Opens Chocolate and Pastry Shop
Dancing Bear Chocolate is located in north Minneapolis, not too far from Victory Memorial Parkway. The corner store is known for confectioneries that some say rival top French chefs. The store debuted in May. Everything is made in the store, from mouth-watering chocolates to pastries and gelato.
Owners Steven Howard and Joe Skifter, both from Robbinsdale, didn’t hesitate to open during the pandemic.
“We were going to open up no matter what,” said Howard.
The two made adjustments to their business plan. For the first couple of months, the shop operated out of their walk-up service window.
“If we had not put that window in, I’m not sure how we would have operated as successful as we did,” said Skifter.
Within the past month, customers have been allowed to come inside the retail store and they have to wear face protection.
However, the Robbinsdale owners say pandemic hasn’t hurt the store’s business too much. There’s often a line to get the sweet treats.
“Chocolates are fantastic, and the pastries are great,” said customer Scott Driscoll.
The owners say they are lucky, especially when many restaurants are having a hard time staying in business.
“It fills us with pride to know what we’re doing is being received like this in the community,” said Skifter.
