Robbinsdale Class Helps Brings Laughter Post-Election
After a long election and months of campaign ads, a little laughter may be in order.
Some people in Robbinsdale found a unique way to do just that and their laughter is ringing out loud at Manor Park.
You might think a joke is the cause of all the giggling, but in this class, jokes aren’t needed to tickle your funny bone, just a willingness to be silly.
By combining laughing, breathing and movements, Pete and Jan Girard led this group in Laughter Yoga.
The worldwide practice has been around for more than 25 years.
The zany antics, create a chorus of chuckles and belly roars that in turn help raise happy hormones and lower bad ones.
“It benefits your heart. It benefits your lungs, all your physicality,” says Pete Girard. “Gets your blood flowing.”
Not only does laughter help you physically, it can also help you mentally.
“You laugh. You so happy and stuff. You forget all your troubles. You forget what made you sad, upset. You forget it,” says Myrtle Anderson, a class participant.
She has been taking part in Laughter Yoga for three years and is reaping its benefits.
“It’s good exercise and when I get though with it, and go home, I am energetic,” said Anderson. “I can do things that I put off for a long time.”
They say laughter is the best medicine.
If that’s the case, these people are well on their way to good health.
There’s room to for others to join the class.
Starting in December, Laughter Yoga classes will be meeting at Manor Park, twice a month.
Classes are free, but registration is recommended. Click here to register.
