Robbin Gallery Hosts ‘Fabulous Fibers’ Exhibit
Are you getting enough fiber? Not that kind of fiber. Robbin Gallery shows that it’s not just for breakfast anymore. The Robbinsdale gallery is hosting its very first show on fiber art, which includes quilts, felts and tie dye art.
The show is titled “Fabulous Fibers.” Jeanne Johnson, gallery director, says the exhibit was included this spring when the Robbinsdale School District student art show had to bow out for the second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We ended up with works by 10 different artists,” said Johnson. “To bring lots of medium together, it’s pretty exciting.”
While the exhibit was pulled together on short notice, local fiber artists stepped up to the plate. The scope and variety of the fiber art is impressive.
“We do have doll making. We have weaving and felting, quilting and also tie dye. All kinds of fiber medium that has come together. Really incredible mix of things,” said Johnson.
For this show Johnson isn’t just the gallery director. She’s also a featured artist.
“For me, I started sewing when I was 9. I’ve been a quilter for about 35 years now. And I love the geometry of it. But more and more as I gotten to be a little more experienced, the color choices the blending of tones, things like that within the project. That to me is artistic. That’s my art,” said Johnson.
“Fabulous Fibers” will be on display at Robbin Gallery through Saturday, April 24.
