Upgrades Planned for Brooklyn Center Transit Station
Since Metro Transit’s new rapid bus line, the C Line, began operating, the Brooklyn Center Transit Station has seen an uptick in traffic.
“When you have a transit center that’s been used as much as this has, it can come to look used,” said Metro Transit Spokesperson Howie Padilla. “It needs a facelift every once in a while.”
Transit officials are doing more than a facelift. They are also looking at improving the functionality as well. The plan is also to renovate restrooms and make several other upgrades.
“We’re going to do the lighting, we’re going to replace some of the benches, new concrete, and just improve the accessibility,” said Padilla.
The plan also includes adding more canopies at either end of the plaza. Customers will also see more bike racks and crosswalks.
“We might not be able to give everybody, every single thing they want, but we know we’re going to make it a better transit center,” said Padilla.
The makeover is part of the Metro Transit capital improvements budget. In February, Metro Transit plans to go to the Brooklyn Center City Council meeting to provide members a preview of the changes.
