FULL LETTER
Dear WPS Families and Staff,
As you likely know, Governor Walz provided updated COVID-19 guidance on May 6. He shared that while we have reasons to be optimistic about our progress against the virus, our school-age children have been significantly impacted in recent months, so we must continue to be diligent with health and safety requirements as we wrap up this school year.
Masks No Longer Required Outdoors, Social Distancing will Remain in Place
One change to the State’s Safe Learning Plan is that students will no longer be required to wear a mask while outdoors. Beginning Monday, May 10, masks will no longer be required when students are outside, including during recess.
Although no longer required, it is recommended that families have discussions about expectations for their child(ren) regarding mask-wearing outdoors at school as staff will remain supportive of students wishing to continue wearing a mask while outdoors. Social distancing of three feet between students will be implemented while outdoors, and face coverings will continue to be required indoors until the statewide requirement is lifted.
Safety Protocols Will Remain in Place
Please follow these safety protocols to help us finish the school year strong.
Remain home when sick or if you are awaiting COVID-19 test results.
Remain home when anyone in the household is sick.
Students and staff who are determined to be close contacts of someone infected with COVID-19 will continue to be quarantined following the guidance that remains in place from the Minnesota Department of Health.
Wear a well-fitted mask while indoors throughout the entire school day.
Maintain MDH/MDE social distancing requirements for in-person learning.
Practice frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer at one of many designated locations throughout the school.
MDE strongly recommends that students and families that are learning in-person be tested for COVID-19 every two weeks. There are many locations providing free COVID-19 testing.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we navigate the final days of the school year.Sincerely,
Chace B. Anderson
Superintendent
