Proposed Brooklyn Park Charter School Hits Roadblock
The Brooklyn Park City Council voted against a zoning change to allow a charter school at a site on West Broadway, just south of I-694. Some neighbors are concerned about roads not being able to handle the amount of traffic a charter school would bring.
The city council voted 4-3 against a zoning change to allow a charter school at a site on West Broadway, just south of 694. Neighbors told the council a school would create traffic problems. The planning commission also voted to recommend denial of the project.
However, Mayor Jeff Lunde wanted to move the measure forward for a second reading so more research could be done.
“Something’s gonna go in there,” said Lunde. “I’ve been to the neighborhood meetings, something is going in there, or else. The land owners can’t develop their land.”
After the motion failed, the council voted to table the matter, so it’s possible a charter school could still be built on that site.
