PrairieCare Partners with Hopkins Schools for Grief Services
Brooklyn Park-based PrairieCare’s philanthropic arm is giving a big boost to a Hopkins School District initiative.
On Friday PrairieCare Child and Family Fund officials presented the district with a $22,000 check. The money will help implement Growing Through Grief, a program run by Park Nicollet, which aims to help schools work with kids to deal with the loss of a classmate, teacher or family member.
“Grief is not a one-time thing,” said Brian Stanley, special services coordinator with the Hopkins School District. “It’s individual for each student. We’re all familiar with the framework of grief. But each situation is unique. And the experience that each individual has in response to that death is also very unique.”
The Hopkins School District program will be open to any student who’s experienced a loss.
