Plymouth Planning Commission Turns Away Apartment Plans
Developers may have to go back to the drawing board in Plymouth after the city’s planning commission recommended rejecting an apartment proposal this week.
“I’m concerned about the density, I’m concerned about the height, I’m concerned about the way they’re doing the parking,” said Plymouth Planning Commission member Marc Anderson.
The developer Doran Cos. proposed to construct two six-story apartment buildings in the 3000 block of Harbor and Fernbrook lanes, northwest of highways 55 and 494.
Each building would have 176 units for a total of 352 apartment homes.
Construction was proposed in two phases, with one building being finished and mostly rented out before construction would start on the second.
Both buildings would include high-end amenities including a clubhouse, pool, spa and a coffee bar.
However, Plymouth city staff members found issues with the design of the buildings and parking at the site.
They recommended the planning commission approve a change to the city’s comprehensive plan to allow for high-density housing at the site.
However, city staff members also recommended the commission reject a preliminary plat and other technical plans for the proposal.
The commission agreed, rejecting the technical plans in a 4-0 vote.
