Plymouth Offering Home Energy Rebates for Household Upgrades
The city of Plymouth is offering a chance for residents to get paid back for making their homes more energy efficient.
Those energy efficiency improvement projects could be a new solar or wind installation, new appliances or installing an electric vehicle charging station.
It’s only for Plymouth residents, and the money people get back depends on the project and income level. People can get up to $750 back in some cases, and up to $500 back in others.
Those in climate vulnerable areas also have access to higher rates.
Plymouth Environmental Stewardship Coordinator MK Anderson said “climate vulnerable” is an area that faces disproportionate impacts from climate change. The city hopes that identifying these areas will make these protections more equitable.
There is a tool on the program’s website to learn which properties fit within that definition.
Anderson said this program is an incentive to help people be more energy-efficient while increasing home values.
“Overall, as a whole, the city will benefit in three main ways,” Anderson said. “We will be using less energy overall, so there will be fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Reduced energy dependence, and then a reduced energy burden for some residents, which will leave more money in their pockets to participate in the local economy.”
Fees collected from the city’s electric vehicle charging stations pay for these rebates.

All households can access these Home Energy Rebates, as long as they follow the steps to participate.
