Plymouth musicians featured at Hennepin County Library
A new Hennepin County Library program allows you to listen to the music of local artists. Plymouth-based band UZZA is one of the featured artists.
UZZA released their latest eight song EP this year called “Out of Sight.” They’ve produced three other albums prior to this years’ EP. They’ve been playing around the Twin Cities and upper Midwest for about ten years, but like other local artists, they can never have enough exposure. MN Spin is helping with that.
Give MN Spin a whirl
“MN Spin is actually an interesting story because it started out as a possible project a few years ago, but the technology wasn’t there,” explains Jeff Radford. He is a reference librarian and community engagement coordinator for Hennepin County Library.
MN Spin is the relatively new music sharing platform that Hennepin County Library System adopted a little over a year ago. The project began with a call to local artists. They launched with 55 artists a year ago and added 70 more artists a few weeks ago.
UZZA was one of the first bands to get in on the initial process and submitted their 2016 album Elysium.
“I think its going to help promote musicians that might not have been heard otherwise,” says lead singer for UZZA, Tabatha Predovich. “So many people are in bands and doing music. It’s difficult to get out there and get the exposure you need.”
“We’re hoping it gets obviously exposure for fellow artists, including ourselves, but it’s a great resource for networking at least for us as musicians meeting other musicians,” says Rich Patterson. He is lead guitarist in the band UZZA.
How do you use MN Spin?
Music on MN Spin is available to the world, but to download the music you need a Hennepin County Library card.
“You go to the website and you can search on a genre,” explains Radford. “Those artists will pop up on the screen and you can listen to them.”
MN Spin is an example of how the Hennepin County Library System is not only keeping up with new technology, but embracing it to help it’s constituents.
“You know that at least here in our home stomping grounds of the upper Midwest, certainly Minneapolis and St.Paul, Hennepin County, we’re able to point people to resources like the library offers and say, hey you can stream this stuff and discover other artists that are on this as well,” says Geoff Maas, a bassist for UZZA.
