Plymouth Holiday Light Recycling Runs to Jan. 31
Plymouth is running a holiday lights recycling program until Jan. 31. The recycling program is for string lights and extension cords, but not pre-lit Christmas trees or light-up lawn fixtures.
Holiday lights, wires and other decorations with strings or strands are not accepted in curbside recycling bins because they tangle and cause damage to recycling processing equipment.
“Our vendor collects them and is able to take the lights apart and recycle the different components of the lights. They recycle the copper, some of the glass they recycle,” explained Chris McKenzie, Plymouth engineering services manager. “If there’s a plastic that’s able to be recycled, they’ll separate that out and take care of that as well.”
Residents can drop off items in temporary collection boxes that are set up at the Plymouth Recycling Drop-Off Site, 14900 23rd Ave. N.
The items are accepted at no cost.
