Plymouth Council Gives Go-Ahead to Nature-Centric Park
Plymouth residents will have enhanced access to nature thanks to the city’s investment in a $2 million new park.
The city council approved a bid to build the new Schmidt Woods Park this week.
Located at 4835 Holly Ln. N., the park has a focus on nature with native plantings and an outdoor classroom.
The classroom is expected to host courses on making maple syrup.
The playground surface will be fully American Disabilities Act accessible — a first for Plymouth, according to Jennifer Tomlinson, Plymouth parks and recreation director.
Likewise, the park has a designated area to set up hammocks without damaging trees.
Tomlinson said that some hammocks require hooks or other fasteners to install, which can damage existing trees.
Construction on the park starts this summer. It’s expected to wrap up before the end of the year.
