Plymouth City Council Will Vote on Police Body Cameras
The Plymouth City Council will vote in the next couple months on whether to let police use body cameras. Police in Crystal, Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center and Golden Valley have all deployed body cameras to improve transparency.
“They do have an important place in this 21st Century when everybody has a phone,” said council member Jim Prom in a recent city council meeting. “I think it would be good to have our officers have the capacity to tap the camera and that back loads the last two minutes. It records the incident and in our case, it will justify the officer’s actions. I am confident of that.”
Under the proposed policy, Plymouth officers would not record all the time, just when responding to incidents.
