Plymouth Brewery Responds to Dry January Trend with Mocktails
At Luce Line Brewing in Plymouth, there’s four new, bright beverages ready to try.
They look like any other cocktail, but they’re missing one ingredient: alcohol.
“Basically, we have designed, we have professionally designed four mocktails,” said Tim Naumann, owner of Luce Line. “So they’re cocktails without alcohol in them. And it’s a great thing for Dry January, sober spring, however people are talking about it.”
Dry January — a campaign that encourages people to give up drinking for a month — is an increasingly popular trend.
The British Journal of General Practices says participants report getting better sleep, having more energy and more money, and having lower blood pressure when they lay off the liquor.
Meanwhile, Harvard Health Publishing says it gives participants a chance to change their relationship with alcohol and break old habits.
Back at Luce Line, they wanted to include the Dry January crowd in the bar scene.
“We thought, a lot of people still want to get out,” Naumann said. “Some folks are not participating in Dry January. What are their friends going to do, how do they really go together.”
The new mocktail menu gives a fun option to those that want the bar without the booze.
“We’ve got a Moscow Mule, Blueberry Mint, a New Year’s Margarita, and Golden Hour,” Naumann said. “It really gives them an option for people who don’t want to consume alcohol, designated drivers — not my day to be drinking — this is a great option.”
For a health-conscious bar-goer, they’re a welcome addition to the menu.
“I would definitely encourage people to come out and try these, you get a fun atmosphere, be at a brewery while also enjoying some mocktails, if you’re sober or doing Dry January yourself you can come out and enjoy with everybody,” one customer told CCX News.
