Perpich Seniors Prepare for Final Performances
Seniors in the theater program at Perpich Arts High School are preparing for their final performances before they graduate.
“Every year at the end of the year, the seniors get together and we each create projects,” said Rachel Steen, Perpich student. “It’s the culmination of our time here, it’s kind of like the final hurrah, the last push.”
Students spent the last quarter of the school year developing their capstone projects.
Each student’s project takes the form of an original work such as a play, a cabaret, a voice-over reel or a set design.
These individual projects then come together in a larger group performance. This year, the performance was called “Family, Feminists, Some Song, Some Dance.”
“It’s kind of like a big group effort after all of us working together in theater all year,” Steen said. “It’s great, I think it’s a really practical experience for us because putting shows together like this is the norm now.”
Steen designed five costumes as part of her project.
“I’ve gotten to experiment with things I haven’t gotten to experiment before,” she said. “So I have a costume that I made from scratch out of leather. I patterned it myself, and I had never worked with leather before. I made a corset that includes boning that I’d never worked with before, so it was a huge learning opportunity for me.”
The performance will be from 7-9 p.m. on May 22. Tickets are available on the Perpich website.
“It’s going to be awesome,” Steen said. “We’re going to have fun, we’re going to show a lot of stuff — I mean there’s something for everyone here.”
