People Line Up for Blocks at New Hope YMCA Food Giveaway
Anyone in the community could pull up and pick up food Tuesday at the second food giveaway organized by the New Hope YMCA and The Food Group. The line of cars, truck and vans in the New Hope YMCA parking lot stretched a couple blocks.
“I think this is very wonderful,” said Paulette Moberg of Brooklyn Center. “Especially this time when people are laid off and businesses are closed.”
Back in July, a similar event assisted 129 households with food.
“I have a great group of volunteers that help me out with this,” said Nancy Danielson of the New Hope YMCA. “So we just put it all together.”
Officials at the Y say there will be another food giveaway in a few weeks. Sept. 22 is the tentative date.
“A lot of time people will come and say they are giving the food to their neighbors or that they’re bringing it to some shut in,” said New Hope Mayor Kathi Hemken, who was on-hand to help out Tuesday. “However the food is getting out, that’s what were all about.”
