Park Center Sports Dome to Open in Early January
Construction on Park Center High School’s new $7.7 million sports dome continues moving toward a January opening date. Workers hope to inflate the dome in mid-December.
“There’s a little delay in the delivery and construction of the fabric for the actual dome itself,” said Brad Tullberg, recreation and parks director for Brooklyn Park. “The schedule got pushed a little bit back from what we thought.”
Despite the delay, the dome’s foundation is now in place. Some outdoor games have already taken place. Youth football teams, such as the Brooklyn Park Pirates, have christened the brand new field turf. Community teams and Park Center High School teams will be able to play on the field, whether it’s covered or not.
Multi-use dome
The multi-use dome will be located just south of Pride Stadium.
“The dome itself is 230 feet wide and 400 feet long,” Tullberg said. “We’ve got soccer. We’ve got lacrosse, baseball softball, cricket. A little bit of everybody is hoping to use the dome.”
When the dome is complete, it will resemble Maple Grove’s dome.
“We also plan to do some open dome nights,” Tullberg said. “It’s open to the community. You come in, pay a couple bucks. You can throw a football around, you can play soccer, use the batting cages, etc.”
The Osseo School District and city of Brooklyn Park are paying for the dome.
