Pair of Teens Arrested in Robbinsdale Homicide Case
A pair of teenagers are now in police custody after a man was shot and killed in Robbinsdale.
The two arrests come after the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Treyvon Molette of Hastings.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, law enforcement officials arrested a 17-year-old suspect for the shooting in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Police are awaiting the suspect’s extradition to Minnesota.
A 16-year-old was also arrested in Coon Rapids and booked in the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The shooting occurred on Dec. 2 near the intersection of Lowry and Indiana avenues.
Robbinsdale police say they were dispatched to a report of shots fired, followed by a report of a car crash.
Officers located the crash and found Molette behind the driver’s seat with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to North Memorial Health Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police believe the fatal gunshot was fired from outside the car.
According to Robbinsdale Police Capt. John Elder, the motive for the shooting may have been robbery. Drugs may also have been a factor, he said.
Elder said more arrests could be on the way.
“Whereas this case has resulted in the arrest of two suspects, this case is far from over,” Elder said. “Investigators continue to work on several aspects of this case.”
According to Elder, security camera footage from local businesses and residents helped detectives track the suspects after the shooting.
Police recovered a weapon during the arrests, as well as evidence connecting the suspects to the crime.
