Osseo School District Seeks Feedback on Planned Boundary Changes

4:54 PM | Wednesday, March 5, 2025

The Osseo Area School District is looking for community feedback as it moves ahead with plans for attendance boundary changes.

According to John Morstad, executive director of finance and operations for the district, changes in population density in the district are a driving factor in the need for new boundaries.

In Maple Grove and the northwest corner of the district — where a new elementary school is being constructed — there’s been an increase in students. Meanwhile, there are fewer school-age kids in other areas of the district.

“We’re taking the opportunity of, rather than just doing one school, we’ve got some unique boundary challenges across the district,” Morstad said. “So it was a great opportunity to try and balance things where we have some schools that have been really low in capacity … There’s still some good pockets of growth. Not only northwest Maple Grove but the Brooklyn Park mayor recently came out and stated some growth plans that they were thinking about in the northwest part of that city. So we need to take that into account as well.”

The Osseo Area School District is looking for community feedback as it moves ahead with plans for attendance boundary changes.

The district has released two scenarios for what new boundaries could look like. Morstad called them “long-term focused.”

“We don’t want to do this a lot,” he said. “If we can do something that for the foreseeable future covers our needs, that’s the goal.”

The scenarios are likely to impact between 2,000 and 2,600 students.

The school board is expected to finalize the new boundaries in May. They will go into effect in fall 2026.

Families can offer feedback on the proposed scenarios online.

There’s also a community information meeting planned for 5:45 p.m. on March 19 in the Osseo Middle School cafe. The presentation portion of the meeting will also be available via livestream.

Previously, the district announced plans to repurpose Crest View Elementary.
