Osseo School District Responds to Bathroom Incident
The Osseo School District is responding to a social media post that gained widespread attention and attracted thousands of re-shares and comments.
A student uploaded a video to social media this week. In it, she claimed Osseo Senior High staff barged in on her while she was using the bathroom because she’s transgender. The student posted the video asking others to retweet and “make it go viral.”
Some who responded to the video posted the school’s address for a letter-writing campaign. Others said the school should fire staff members in the video.
But other posts questioned whether or not the student set up the whole thing. Some wondered why she was ready to record video in the bathroom in the first place.
The school posted a message from the Osseo Senior High principal to its website, which said the posts “significantly misrepresent” what actually happened. The principal said “no students were barred or banned from using any bathroom” at the school.
The letter said staff only gets involved in bathroom use in situations such as student safety, illness, or suspected illegal activity. The district refused to say more about this situation, citing data privacy reasons.
