Osseo Grows Fruit Orchard
The Osseo Orchard is a bit of an anomaly. It’s not often you hear about a city that has its own orchard. But Osseo has one, and Tuesday it got a little love.
The orchard was originally planted in 2017. It features apples, pears, cherries, and as of Tuesday, it even has apricots. The new trees come courtesy of Hennepin County, which had some left over from other projects. City planner Nancy Abts is proud of the Osseo Orchard.
“I think food growing, fruit production is certainly part of Osseo’s history,” she says. “And if there’s one thing we’re proud of here in this community, it’s our heritage.”
The fruits of the city’s orchard are up for grabs. Anyone who wants one can come pick it off a tree, for free.
The orchard is located on the East side of the city, adjacent to Highway 169, at the corner of 2nd Street SE and 8th Avenue SE.
