Renovations Coming to the Osseo Ice Arena
Hockey players and fans will be glad to hear change is coming to the Osseo Ice Arena.
The Ice Arena is getting a $2 million makeover that will be finished in October. Osseo Area Schools will pay for the bulk of the renovations, but the Osseo Maple Grove Hockey Association as well as booster clubs are also providing funding.
Most of the work will be mechanical improvements and locker room upgrades.
“This is one of the old desiccant systems that we will be replacing. The new system we’re going to be using is much smaller,” says Dale Carlstrom of the Osseo School District. “We’re going to be able to take all this older equipment out of here and reuse a space up here for new lockers for the boys and girls hockey teams.”
Osseo Ice Arena Renovations Long Overdue
The facility was built in two phases. The original building opened in the 1970s and another addition came in the 1990s. There have also been a few renovations along the way.
Building officials say the upgrades are long overdue. “I understand the Osseo-Maple Grove Hockey Association to be one of the second largest in the state,” says Carlstrom. “They’ve got well over 1,000 students in their program. We’re partnering with them to serve the needs of our high school kids as well as the kids coming up through the hockey association.”
Carlstrom says there could be more major improvements coming, including a new ice refrigeration system.
