Osseo Approves Support for Teen Recreation
The city of Osseo offers recreational opportunities for every age group except teenagers, which make up six percent of the city’s population. City staff and council members have been discussing how to change that.
“We have a very long, established senior program. We tried a youth program. When you look at teens, there’s nothing,” said council member Mark Schulz in a recent council meeting. “We should look at that.”
The city council voted this week to establish a rebate program. Osseo residents between the ages of 9-17 can apply for a 50 percent rebate on summer programming offered through an Osseo business. Each rebate can exceed no more than $150 and a teen can only qualify for one rebate per summer. The resident would need to fill out an application at city hall for reimbursement. There are currently a variety of arts, music and physical fitness summer programs offered through Osseo businesses.
The program begins this summer on June 1.
