One Last Year for Brooklyn UMC’s Mega Sale
One of the largest all volunteer garage sales will mark its final year at Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Brooklyn Center. The mega-sale is an all-year effort that involves many volunteers.
This is the 30th and the last year for the Mega Sale.
Volunteers gather furniture, clothing, books, holiday decor, household goods and much more from estate sales and donations. More than 200 volunteers worked to identify, sort, tag, and price the items.
The sale started out small, but as it grew, it reached its limit. The volunteers got older, with the youngest on the crew being 65 years old.
“It’s time that we hang it up,” said Wendell Garnhardt, a longtime volunteer and organizer. “All of us that are working 24/7 to get it going. It just kind of, ‘hey, that’s it, look at something different.”
The sale begins with a pre-sale on Wednesday night and starts up again on Thursday at 10 a.m. It runs through Saturday, with items discounted as the event proceeds.
Part of the sales go to local Boy Scout Troop 299 and Brooklyn Avenues for Homeless Youth.
