One Injured, 12 Displaced in Robbinsdale Apartment Fire
A Sunday evening apartment fire in Robbinsdale injured one man and left all 12 people living inside the small complex without a home, officials said.
According to a press release, first responders in Robbinsdale were dispatched at 5:57 p.m. on Nov. 30 to reports of a fire at 3829 West Broadway. Callers reported seeing flames coming out of a first-floor window.
Police officers from Crystal and New Hope began to evacuate the complex, while firefighters from the Robbinsdale and West Metro fire departments found a person trapped on the third floor of the building.
Firefighters issued a second alarm and received aid from the Golden Valley, Osseo and Brooklyn Center fire departments.
Using ladders, firefighters rescued the individual who was trapped.
One man was injured in the fire when he ran back into the burning building after he evacuated. He was hospitalized and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Metro Transit buses and the Gearty Delmore Funeral Chapel provided temporary shelter from the cold to many of the apartment’s residents.
Firefighters eventually extinguished the fire, but all 12 residents in the building were displaced. The Red Cross is helping them find shelter.
Exterior damage to the building is visible from the building’s back parking lot but from the street.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
