Off-Broadway Musical Theatre Reacts to New Outdoor Venue: ‘We All Went Wow’
Off Broadway Musical Theatre is planning their return to performing at the new amphitheater in New Hope .
The coronavirus cancelled performances and practices last year, and the previous year the theatre’s performing area was under construction. They recently got a chance to see their new space.
“We all just went, Wow. It was more exciting than we expected. We were really thrilled. And we want to give a great big shout out to the City of New Hope Park and Rec. They really fulfilled our vision our dream of what this could and should be,” said Connie Lillibridge, an OBMT board member.
Many of the Off Broadway Musical Theatre’s staff hadn’t seen the new space yet. Now all members of the board and staff can begin imagining how productions will work in the new space. Some theatre members are glad that the aluminum bleachers are gone.
“I love the seating. I think that it’s probably going to be more comfortable for people. The tiers are going to be a lot more helpful than just like, you know, a grassy space. People will be able to see really well. Everything is wider so more people get to sit closer,” said Mary Ann Boniface, the music director for Off Broadway Musical Theater.
Off Broadway’s first performance will be “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” Auditions and rehearsals begin at the end of the month and the play is set to begin its run in late July.
